English Rider Levels / Coaching
+ The Latest News...
Regarding rider levels: This is straight from EC's Coaching Manager:
Great news - Equine Canada has received the new English Rider Level CD's. There is one CD which is black - this is specifically for the evaluators. There is another CD which is white - this is for the candidates. The white candidate CD is used in addition to the Rider Level manuals . Each CD comes in an envelop that can be attached to the inside of a book so if one wishes they can attached the candidate CD inside of their Rider Level handbook.
In addition, there is a CD created specifically for each of the PSO offices. On the CD for each of the PSO offices there are the tests, answer keys, individual evaluation forms, evaluator forms, and a summary of marks sheet for each of the Rider Levels. All official documentation on this CD also includes the specific PSO logo. The documentation on the PSO CD does not appear on the evaluator or candidate CDs. Thus if an evaluator wants to test a specific level they must contact their respective PSO office for the official documentation.
Each of the PSO has been notified regarding the availability of the English Rider Level 1-10 program.
+ Funding Initiatives - NEW!
If anyone has coaching projects for which they would like to receive potential funding from Community and Cultural Affairs for 2007/8, they can apply by going to the following: www.gov.pe.ca/commcul/ . Under "online resources" click on Index of Programs, Services, Licenses and Permits then click on Amateur Sport Support Program where you will find an application form. Once filled out, the application then has to come to Island Horse Council (deadline TBA), which will forward full and detailed apps to CCA for review. More info to come.
+ General Information
English Coaching Right now riders have the option of doing the old Rider Levels (1,2,3) OR the NEW Rider Level Program (Rider Levels 1-10) . As of March 2007, the NEW rider levels will take over completely.
The new rider levels are much more progressive in nature ... The levels are more attainable in smaller steps. The Old Rider 1 is equivalent to the New Rider 1 and 2. The Old Rider 2 is equivalent to the new Rider 3,4,5 and 6. The old Rider 3 has been divided into the new Rider 7 and 8. The NEW rider 9 is still being developed but will be equivalent to the existing Coaching 1 and the NEW RIder 10 (also in development) will be equivalent to the current Coaching 2.
For you Pony Clubbers -- Pony Club "C2" will be granted equivalence for the Old Rider Level 2 or the New Rider Level 6. Pony Club "B" will be granted equivalence for the Old Rider Level 3 or the
New Rider Level 8.
For all others, if you are more advanced and don't wish to start at the beginning of the new rider levels, you may challenge a higher level. If you don't pass, the examiner may award you a certificate at a lower level they deem appropriate.
First of all for more details you can always check out Equine Canada's site at www.equinecanada.ca under coaching.
NCCP Program
As most of you know, the NCCP program has been modified. In order to transition existing certified coaches into the new NCCP program and maintain their recognition as a certified coach, coaches must now do a module called "Make Ethical Decisions" (MED).
You can attempt the on-line test through the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) without prepatory work, however, it is strongly suggested they participate in the MED portion of the new NCCP Intro to Competition Theory Part A. You can register with PEI's Community and Cultural Affairs ONLY for the MED portion of the part A (about 3 hrs long) or you might be able to access a course through NS or NB. Once this is completed, you must take the MED on-line evaluation. To access the exam all you need is your CC #. The exam is accessible and free to anyone with a CC # for two attempts. W hen successfully completed, your profile will then be activated under the new NCCP program.
Those who are currently working toward or will be going through for their coaching levels in the future will do MED in the NCCP Theory A and won't have to go through this rigamarole. Clear as mud, right? If you have any questions, please contact me.
