1) updating all the rider level and coaching files both at the provincial and national level
2) organizing theory and practical courses and evaluations for riders and coaches
3) providing rider level and coaching certificates

Some of the Objectives for creating this position include:

1) improving industry standards on PEI with regards to the quality of riding and coaching
2) providing reasonable and local access to rider and coaching development
3) providing reasonable and local access to certificates, courses and evaluations
4) providing timely distribution of expectations and changes to national coaching standards

Any current or potentially future riders and coaches on PEI are encouraged to contact Laura directly to discuss what they would like to see offered by the provincial coaching program.

Courses currently taking registration include:

1) Western Coaching Update (Nov 12th)
2) Western Rider Level 1 & 2 testing (Nov 13th)
3) English Instructor of Beginners Clinic and Evaluation (Nov 19th)
4) English Coaching Update (Nov 20th)

Alternate testing dates for both English and Western rider levels can also be arranged and conducted by a certified coach. This means that even if you are a rider taking lessons from someone who is not certified, you can still participate in the testing dates and receive national recognition for your accomplishments.

If you are an uncertified coach teaching lessons, you are still able to teach your students the expectations of the rider levels. However, they would be required to attend a testing date being conducted by a certified coach in order to receive their certificates. Rider level manuals are available through EC. You may also order them through the PCC. Cost of the manual is 25$.

If you are a coach with credentials, please forward copies of your certifications to 4291 Breadalbane Rd. Breadalbane, PE C0A1E0. Update requirements are listed on the Equine Canada website.

In addition, coaches who are members of Island Horse Council can request a letter from IHC confirming they are a member of a non-profit organization. This letter entitles you to a free criminal record check which is a coaching requirement and must be filed with the PCC (a savings of approximately 25$).
